Telehealth OT is Here — and It's Changing How NDIS Participants Access Support
We have some exciting news to share. Haven OT is now offering Telehealth sessions, bringing personalised occupational therapy directly to you — wherever you are, whatever your situation.
If you or someone you support has ever found it difficult to get to an appointment — whether due to distance, fatigue, mobility challenges, or the unpredictability of daily life — this one is for you.
Why Telehealth OT makes sense for NDIS participants
Beyond the obvious convenience, Telehealth offers some real practical advantages — especially when you're working within an NDIS plan. Here's what we hear from participants who've made the switch:
It helps your funding go further
Travel costs — whether that's transport support, fuel, or time — can quietly eat into your NDIS budget. Telehealth removes that overhead entirely, meaning more of your funding stays where it matters: your therapy.
Connect with your therapist from wherever works for you
At home, at a family member's place, in a quiet room at work — as long as you have a device and a few minutes of privacy, you're set. Telehealth meets you where you are, rather than the other way around.
More flexibility with appointment times
Telehealth opens up scheduling in a way that in-person clinics often can't. Without travel time factored in on either side, it's easier to find appointment windows that genuinely fit your week — including early mornings, lunch breaks, or later in the day.
What is Telehealth OT?
Telehealth occupational therapy is exactly what it sounds like — OT delivered online via video call. Sessions are real, personalised, and goal-directed, just as they would be if you came in to see us in person.
You don't need to compromise on the quality of your care to access it from home. Our therapists are fully trained in delivering effective support through telehealth, and many of the assessments, strategies, and conversations that happen in-clinic translate seamlessly to an online format.
What can Telehealth OT help with?
Our Telehealth sessions cover the full scope of occupational therapy support, including:
Daily living skills and independence
Building confidence and capacity in everyday tasks — dressing, cooking, self-care, and more.
Fatigue and energy management
Developing practical strategies to manage energy levels and maintain participation in meaningful activities.
Home environment and setup advice
We can guide you through your home environment via video to recommend modifications, equipment, or setup changes that support your independence and safety.
Sensory processing
Support for individuals who experience sensory sensitivities, with strategies tailored to their specific profile.
Mental health and wellbeing
OT has a strong role in supporting mental health through routine, activity, and building a life that feels meaningful and manageable.
NDIS goals and functional capacity
Whether you're working toward specific NDIS goals or need a functional capacity assessment, we can support this process via Telehealth.
How does a Telehealth session work?
It's simpler than you might think. Here's what to expect:
All you need is a device with a camera — a smartphone, tablet, or laptop will do.
Find a quiet, comfortable space where you feel at ease. This could be your bedroom, lounge room, or wherever works for you.
We'll send you a secure link before your session. At the scheduled time, click the link and you're in.
Your therapist will run the session just as they would in person — checking in, discussing your goals, and working through practical strategies with you.
Any resources, exercises, or recommendations are shared with you digitally after the session.
Is Telehealth covered by the NDIS?
Yes — Telehealth OT sessions can be funded through your NDIS plan under Capacity Building supports, just like in-person sessions. If you have funding for occupational therapy in your plan, this applies.
